S-curve flooding

Always have a Plan B on the island....ALWAYS. So, tried to go up the beach yesterday on the holiday for my son and husband, but mama nature said, "no."

Anyway, be sure to put this link to the Web cam at the northern end of Rodanthe on your bookmarks...it doesn't hurt to check it out before you travel.

Happy Halloween!

Here in the tri-villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo, we have a great civic association who sponsors events like yesterday's Halloween parade & party for the kids. Everyone came out and some tourists joined in on the fun as well. Good food, good fun and great costumes!

If you are a property owner in the "tri," I urge you to join our civic association. Visit the website to find out more.

Calm..a rarity

Enjoy this photo of the world without end; we truly appear to be on an island in the middle of nowhere! Because it is so rarely calm, I thought I'd post this....sending you peace today. ('cause I know the wind will be back tomorrow!)

Never gets old

Tada! That what this photo seems to say...Or:

"His rays are all gold, and his beauties are best, as painting the skies he sinks down in the West, and foretells a bright rising again." -Watts

Wish I took one of the sunrise I saw this morning with toothbrush in hand, but I will have to keep that one to myself.

Call me for your sunset view....or sunrise. Enjoy this golden season folks.

It's the little things that make this community GREAT

So, I finally got out and cleaned up my portion of the road for the Adopt A Highway program that we do Spring and Fall in the villages. I had to wait for the temperatures to cool down and the mosquitoes to become less fierce this week. I found WAY less plastic bags this time around....thanks to Sen. Mark Basnight's plastic bag ban...I am excited to see the proof of that. Also managed not to fall into the ditch while I was plucking out trash which is a plus...there's always someone who has to toot their horn at you and give you a little scare to send you reeling. Also found (and left to decompose) two little turtles and one green snake...RIP.

Give a hoot, don't pollute! Have great weekend!

Banking follies

Well, we ended last week with the news of the banks putting a halt on foreclosures....and the questions begin!

I am trying to understand it all, talking to people in the industry, and reading articles on the situation. A friend sent me this link that gives you an idea of the what to expect.

Breathe in...breathe out.

The Pink Run

Here in Salvo on October 9, 2010, the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation raised $9000 in their 7th annual fun run!! Check out the link to the slide show here.

For a small community, we have a big heart....a big PINK heart! The HICF is a great organization that provides support to those folks and their families dealing with cancer. Check out their site.

Handyman's special

Ten years ago, we always had people calling to inquire whether there were any "handyman's specials." We went through a period when we didn't see these much, and even if they were in need of repair, the price didn't equal the "fixer upper." The house pictured above just came on the market (not my listing) asking $130K..call me if you'd like me to put in an offer for you! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at aprilc@hatterasrealty.com

Hope to hear from you!

Steal an oceanfront!

I had to share this listing even though it's not mine. An oceanfront in the Hatteras Colony subdivision of Salvo for the bank approved short sale price of $439K...wow! I have been in this house, and it looks great. A nice makeover was done on it a few years back, and it has a nice storage area downstairs, and a hot tub too. Let me know if I can present an offer for you!

Windy windy windy

Yes, our kids get wind days...not snow days....oh yes, and the ever popular flood days! Seriously, they won't run the buses over the causeway to Manteo if the winds go over 45 mph...and if one school lets out early they ALL do in Dare county. So today, the children all got out a whooping hour and a half early due to high winds. If you could've seen my hair today, it confirmed the wind speed...crazy 'do.

Just an interesting little thing for you to know about the Outer Banks. Now, I think I'll the wind rock-a-bye-baby me to sleep.

Get it now!

Let me remind you of the reasons the it is THE time to buy:
The interest rates are LOW!
The prices are down.
Rental incomes are good.

Need I say more...? This is a great time to build too...if you can't find what suits you, this is a great option.

A condo for 85K? or a 7 bedroom oceanside house with a pool and income in the 40s for 450k?

This is just a sampling...call me for more deals, I really want to tell you about the one that fits your needs!

Earl?

Who comes up with these names? I sincerely hope that Earl is not a name that gets carved into our minds....the suspense is maddening! So, we all tidy up the yards a bit for now, then wait and see whether we stay or go.... Hoping Earl changes his travel plans!

Welcome Autumn!

Hello web world. Summer was way too fast...WAY too fast. There has definitely been an increased interest in Hatteras Island real estate, and I ran around quite a bit showing property I'm happy to say. I believe that we will see activity this fall as well. So, when I wasn't running the real estate roads, I did my share of beaching it, seeing family (at the beach of course) and staying up late to stargaze and attempting to see a turtle nest hatch. I'll fill you in later on all the fun stuff...check back!

Going to miss my real estate sidekick since he has to go back to school, but this girl has worked hard, played hard, and is happy to get back to a normal schedule...and of course, one of our sweetest times on the Outer Banks: Autumn!

Summer is around the corner...

I can't believe we have already made our way to Memorial Day weekend. Spring is too short, don't you agree? The weather is really perfect now with cool nights, warm days, and the flowers in bloom. I'm going to enjoy it while I can...and try to think of something good to put on the grill.

Waves Village Condos-new listing

Good Morning,

Check out the video made last week of my new listing in Rodanthe. Unit #19 of Waves Village Condos asking price is $450,000. I will post all the details soon.

Yes, I am dependent on technology...

Today for about two and a half hours we islanders were without cell phone service, and internet....the horror!! It felt like all the tasks I needed to do were directly linked to my computer, but I did manage to make good use of my time by seeing the lovely gardens and home of a neighbor/client/friend who is thinking of selling in the village of Salvo. If you want Coastal Living, this is the one...stay tuned.

Meanwhile, if you want to get some of the best views of the ocean, consider the Genesis cottage for $529,000 in Rodanthe. The house used for the movie, "Nights in Rodanthe," has been moved just to the south of Genesis....but I think the real gems here will be the sunrise in the "Mornings in Rodanthe....." Check out the videos:

Smell of a spring ocean..sounds of progress

This morning when I woke up, I immediately sensed the salt in the air...sweet salty air had floated my way and a fog moving in....

You will see the house under construction in Salvo, and since I am just a few lots away, I can hear the hammmering, the saws, the routers, stacks of lumber slamming to the ground. While most people may find this annoying, I find it uplifting. It means the island prospers....and that's a good thing. I always like the idea of building if you can't find your dream house out there...let me find you the dream lot to build on!

The fog has been in and out all day today taunting us with its sights and smells. Here's a few more photos I took on my morning walk. Enjoy YOUR day!

Never know who'll you'll meet waiting for the bus!

Today as I waited for the bus, I met a man, Glenn, who was looking for a store. Turns out he is kayaking from Florida to Canada! Oh, you must be at the day use area, I say.....No, he came from the ocean! Wow, now I'm really impressed kayaking the ocean! So, I need to read more on this and you can too, check him out:

www.oneoceanproject.com

Maybe we'll go down to the beach and see if we can spot his kayak...maybe take a picture.

Ok, enjoying a little rain, good for the garden. Bad for our "first" Babe Ruth League game.

Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkQ_4OPdVAQ To say the beach was uncrowded would be an understatement. I had it all to myself practically. This is the beach in front of South Beach and Ocean Spray Road in Salvo. I have a gorgeous lot for sale there for $109,900. It has TREES people!!

Also, saw 15 Ibis back in the canal entrance out back...I'll post a picture if they turned out...at least I think that is what they were. I need to find my bird book.

Hope all is well and Spring Green in your world.
