Wow, it's been a great summer...hot weather and hot sales!

I am excited that there has been so much interest in our area's real estate despite the nation's economy. Those folks who saw the prices fly upward and out of reach, are now able to realize their dreams of owning property on the Outer Banks.

Short sales are very popular, and we are also seeing more land sales. (P.S. They're not making more shoreline...) Properties under 300,000 are getting the most traffic. Out of the 138 homes sold on Hatteras Island since January 1st, 65 of those were under 300K.

It's the little things that make this community GREAT

So, I finally got out and cleaned up my portion of the road for the Adopt A Highway program that we do Spring and Fall in the villages. I had to wait for the temperatures to cool down and the mosquitoes to become less fierce this week. I found WAY less plastic bags this time around....thanks to Sen. Mark Basnight's plastic bag ban...I am excited to see the proof of that. Also managed not to fall into the ditch while I was plucking out trash which is a plus...there's always someone who has to toot their horn at you and give you a little scare to send you reeling. Also found (and left to decompose) two little turtles and one green snake...RIP.

Give a hoot, don't pollute! Have great weekend!

Banking follies

Well, we ended last week with the news of the banks putting a halt on foreclosures....and the questions begin!

I am trying to understand it all, talking to people in the industry, and reading articles on the situation. A friend sent me this link that gives you an idea of the what to expect.

The Pink Run

Here in Salvo on October 9, 2010, the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation raised $9000 in their 7th annual fun run!! Check out the link to the slide show here.

For a small community, we have a big heart....a big PINK heart! The HICF is a great organization that provides support to those folks and their families dealing with cancer. Check out their site.

Handyman's special

Ten years ago, we always had people calling to inquire whether there were any "handyman's specials."
